Ask and you shall receive! For those who need extra support in validating the benefits of tea to your friends, here you are. Arm yourself with knowledge for the Tea Revolution happening in America!

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows green tea extract can increase your metabolism and helps the fat oxidation in your body. Since, extracts are simply concentrated form of herbs, let us go to the source…the good ole’ tea leaf! We’ll examine three active ingredients found in green teas that help the body lose weight. Tea is the only beverage that contains all three.

Studies have found Flavonoids found in tea stimulates the body’s use of norepinephrine, which is a hormone that monitors how calories are burned. Once this hormone is active, it helps the body burn calories instead of being used for extra “cushioning”. Tea functions like the key that turns on the engine in your body.

Caffeine and catechin polyphenals found in tea help increase the body’s metabolism and promotes thermogenesis, which the body’s natural process of using energy. Some people can sweat after drinking tea for many reasons. To keep things simple, the first reasons is to purge the system of toxins through the skin. The second reason is because now your body is functioning at higher metabolic rate; therefore, you are expending a little bit of more energy to do what normally are doing. Picture yourself living in the Artic with subzero temperatures, you will need to expend over 10,000 calories per day, just to live! It’s because your thermogenesis will be higher in colder climates to keep the body warmer, otherwise you would just freeze. So in essence, your body is functioning as if it were a few degrees colder than it really is.

The question often comes up, “Isn’t caffeine bad for me?” The simple answer is, with good quality tea, the caffeine in tea is gentle on the system. It doesn’t over stimulate the heart, raise blood pressure or the adrenal glands. That’s a discussion for another day!
